Feeling Stuck? Here's the Shift Your Business Needs to Grow

Whether you’re a new business owner or a business owner ready to reach the next level, you know that every day in business looks different. Some days are full of leads, multiple purchases, and new inquiries. Other days, deals fall short, leads disengage, website traffic drops, and purchases slow down. This said, each season in business is different from the other.

So how can we evolve and navigate the highs, lows, and ongoing changes if we remain…fixed?

Operating from a fixed mindset in business is like trying to drive forward while refusing to turn the steering wheel. The road will shift, curves will come, and obstacles will appear. If you stay locked in one position, you don’t just slow down…you eventually stop moving altogether.

The truth is, what worked last year—or even last quarter—may not work moving forward. Business owners who don’t adapt don’t just plateau—they fall behind.

What’s Actually Changing (And Why It Matters)

A few major shifts we’ve seen in consumer behavior:

1. Buyers are more informed than ever

Consumers are researching, comparing, and vetting brands before making decisions. Recent Google-backed data shows that over 70% of buyers conduct research before engaging with a business. This reflects a clear increase from 2019, when roughly half of shoppers (around 53%) reported consistently researching before making a purchase—highlighting a major shift toward more informed, research-driven consumers.

2. Trust now drives purchasing decisions—not just name recognition

People are buying from brands they feel aligned with—not just the cheapest or most convenient option. The Edelman Trust Barometer consistently shows that trust is a key driver of purchasing behavior.

In 2019, trust was important, but still secondary to factors like price and quality. Today, trust is considered equally as important as price and quality in purchase decisions (Edelman Trust Barometer, 2024–2025).

At the same time, trust has become more fragile. Since 2021, global trust across institutions—including businesses—has seen noticeable declines and volatility (Edelman Trust Barometer, 2025). This shift is reflected in consumer behavior: 64% of consumers now choose, switch, or avoid brands based on their beliefs and trust in them

3. Attention spans are shorter, but expectations are higher

If your messaging isn’t clear, engaging, and relevant, people move on quickly. HubSpot notes that modern consumers expect personalized and immediate experiences across digital channels.

Where Businesses Are Falling Behind

1. Posting content without a clear strategy

Being active doesn’t mean being effective. Quality will always trump quantity. Just because you are showing up consistently online doesn’t mean your strategy is effective. If you haven’t established your goals, KPIs, and a system to analyze outcomes for each post, you are moving quickly with no clear destination. This approach is not only ineffective—it can quickly lead to burnout.

2. Relying on the same marketing channels without testing new ones

When is the last time you analyzed your consumer behavior and engagement trends per channel? You may be comfortable posting on Instagram because it once drove engagement, inquiries, and conversions. However, audiences evolve. If your customers have shifted how or where they engage—and you haven’t adapted—you may be positioning your business to fall behind.

3. Avoiding investment in brand, messaging, tools, or customer experience

As customer expectations grow when it comes to personalized experience it’s important to audit your customer engagement flow and invest in the automation and personalization tools needed to create competitive customer engagement experiences.

Growth requires evolution—and evolution requires intention. Many business owners avoid investing in their brand, messaging, or customer experience and take on everything themselves. In reality, growing a business efficiently requires a diverse set of skills. Solopreneurs often experience burnout from wearing too many hats, often rooted in the hesitation to invest in the right support or strategic guidance.

These are just a few of the reasons some business owners feel stuck. Not because they aren’t working hard—but because they’re working from a fixed perspective.

Is your mindset Fixed as a Business Leader?

  1. Do you hesitate to try new strategies unless you’re certain they’ll work?

  2. Do you rely heavily on what has worked in the pastInstead of asking, “What’s working now?”

  3. Do you take feedback personally instead of using it as data?

  4. Do you hesitate to invest in the support, or the tools to produce the best outcomes for your business?

  5. Do you avoid conducting consumer research and staying in formed on the latest trends?

When this mindset goes unchecked, it leads to:

  • Missed revenue opportunities

  • Slower business growth

  • Weak brand differentiation

  • Lower customer retention

  • Burnout from trying to control everything
